Welcome to ENC1145: Writing About Board Games. This website will host all of the content for our class -- weekly plans, the syllabus, descriptions of major assignments, readings, and other useful resources. The only aspect of the course delivered through Blackboard will be grades.
Please take some time to fully explore and familiarize yourself with this site during the first week of the semester.
Throughout this Fall we will be examining games (together and alone) and using analytical skills to consider why each game is important, what messages it sends, and what audience the game is intended for.
Every week you will be required to learn and play 1-2 games. Most of the games we will play will be available through the website Board Game Arena (BGA). I will require each of you to have a free account there, which you will sign up for during the first week of class. You may also play the games at the IRL (In Real Life) Club, a weekly informal game hour or two.
You will also be blogging about each game. I will show you how to set up a blog using Weebly.com during the first week of class. Your blog is a space for you to practice writing about games.
Finally, if you want to know more about me, visit the about page. You can also see what games I own to get an idea of the sort of games we will be discussing.
Can' wait for a great semester.
Rob
